Building envelope and structural engineering services to revitalize Fleming College’s A-wing at the Sutherland Campus. The 76,000-sf project was completed while the facility was occupied and maintained operations.
The facility’s modernization upgrade included re-cladding of the exterior envelope with alpolic aluminum panels, and a complete roof replacement conducted to address water infiltration and end of service life performance. Our scope of services included providing review of the architect’s building envelope design and roof replacement site review services.
Our structural design supported the architect’s goal of enhancing the building’s circulation and internal aesthetic including a glass pavilion and the addition of a ground floor entrance. In addition, our structural design was provided for:
New ground floor entrance to Phase 1 building
New feature stair A, at the north side of the Phase 2 building, and demolition drawings of the existing stairs
New clearstory within the Phase 1 building, through the roof and 3rd floor levels, including roof reinforcement for accumulated snow loading
Structural design for the connection details of the new proposed cladding and parapets of the building
