Our structural renovation of the Hermant Building, a heritage site built in 1913 and 1929, involved work on both towers: the 16-storey 21 Dundas and the 9-storey 19 Dundas with a roof terrace. Key structural elements included extensive work within 19 Dundas Square, where we conducted assessments and prepared preliminary structural drawings for steel reinforcement and localized concrete repairs. The concrete floor structures from the 2nd to 9th floors were in poor condition due to long-term exposure to moisture and high humidity, necessitating significant repairs.

Located at downtown Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, the Hermant Building had lost its prominence over the years. The upgrades were focused on exterior restorations, interior base building upgrades, retrofits, and 90,000 square feet of commercial tenant renovations.

Challenges/Uniqueness:

  • Heritage Restoration: The project restored the Hermant Building, preserving its art deco style while integrating modern functionality.
  • Extensive Structural Work: Significant structural renovations addressed long-term moisture damage
  • The transformation revitalized the building with exterior restorations, interior upgrades, retrofits, and 90,000 square feet of commercial tenant renovations.
