Calibrated Energy Model Analysis is currently underway (2021) to evaluate energy saving retrofits. The first planned retrofit is a potential replacement of the exterior EIFS wall cladding which needs repair.
A comprehensive IES-VE Hourly Simulation Energy Modeling Software will be used by our subconsultant (Ecovert). The following will be completed:
- Establish a “baseline” calibrated model using previous 1-3 years of monthly utility data (Electric and Gas) that must be provided by TO Live.
- Normalize consumption data with the corresponding year’s weather files.
- Utilize existing building As-built drawings, shop drawings and any BAS or sub-meter data available.
- Utilize any survey or previous audit information provided to us of existing lights and equipment.
- Calibrated model will establish a baseline to implement and assess energy retrofit upgrades.
- Produce a “Performance” energy model of the building incorporating all proposed energy conservation measures (ECMs) to estimate annual energy savings, cost savings, and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) savings.
- Produce a comparative Energy Summary Report of the ECMs. Starting with the calibrated baseline model, the model will be updated to include the building’s ECMs to create the performance period model. The following ECMs will be considered as part of the Building Envelope Upgrades:
- EIFS Wall Upgrades (test up to 3 variations)
- Other Upgrades (test up to 2 variations)
The individual ECMs will be run separately against the baseline energy model to evaluate individual savings as well as select combined ECMs to include for interactive effects/savings between the ECMs.
- A comprehensive energy report detailing the results, inputs, and life-cycle cost savings of the proposed building envelope upgrades as well as associated carbon emission savings.
- Meet to discuss modelling results and any further recommendations to improve energy/energy cost savings.
- Advise of any appliable retrofit incentives programs including IESO “Save-on-Energy”, Enbridge Gas Retrofit Incentives as well as City of Toronto Sustainable Financing Program.
