Build-out of a 21,800 sq ft warehouse into the Rogers CDC3 POD II, Tier III certified Data Centre in Airdrie, Alberta. Our involvement spanned initial site reviews through design and contract administration, adapting to evolving project requirements. The structural design encompassed a range of elements critical for the data center’s operation.
Our design work included structural support for ten outdoor air handling Munter units with a staged installation approach, requiring modifications to the return air plenum framing. We engineered support for four generators, including two on concrete pads and two “stacked” on elevated platforms. The scope also involved the design of a suspended platform for an exterior load bank due to site grade changes, and concrete pads with pile/grade beam foundations for two water tanks, addressing movement concerns. Furthermore, we reviewed and provided reinforcing designs for a significant number of rooftop mechanical units, including RTUs, MAUs, and EFs, adapting to changes in the mechanical scope.
Our services extended to the structural modifications for substantial west wall openings in a load-bearing concrete tilt-up wall, necessitating a lateral check for the overall building and new framing to support remaining wall portions. We provided contract administration, including shop drawing reviews and site visits. We also addressed contractor deficiencies, provided alternate framing solutions, and assisted with the assembly of as-built drawings, ensuring a structurally sound and compliant data center.
