Foundations for the Future
In new construction, we lay the groundwork for innovation and progress. Our knowledge in structural engineering creates strong and resilient foundations, setting the stage for remarkable buildings that stand the test of time.
Featured Projects
Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
This 1.2 million-square-foot, 11-storey healthcare facility is the country’s first “smart” hospital, featuring fully integrated smart technology systems and devices that communicate directly with each other to enhance patient care. The hospital includes a state-of-the-art emergency department, advanced diagnostic imaging, specialized ambulatory clinics, intensive care beds, single acute-care patient rooms designed for infection control, and modern surgical services with advanced operating rooms. The facility was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health
Building envelope consulting services were provided for the 8-storey McCain Complex and the 7-storey Crisis and Critical Care Building, totaling 622,000 square feet. The project included multiple cladding systems—primarily aluminum curtain wall—and both conventional and green roofing assemblies. Scope included thermal modeling, design reviews, mock-up and shop drawing reviews, site inspections, and envelope commissioning for enhanced performance across 650,000 square feet of new clinical space.
Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning Student Welcome Centre & Resource Centre
This 3-storey, 43,000-square-foot building serves as a key orientation point for students and visitors. Designed and built to achieve at least LEED Silver Certification, the project focused on enhancing the quality and performance of the building envelope. Our role involved field review services during construction and the development of a building durability plan. Key services included architectural and shop drawing reviews, field reviews, building envelope commissioning, and the creation of a comprehensive commissioning plan.
Paul Reynolds Community Centre/Wedgewood Park Aquatic Centre
This new 73,750-square-foot community centre located in St. John’s, features a 6-lane, 25-meter pool, a separate leisure pool, gymnasium, youth centre, seniors centre, fitness studio, and multi-purpose rooms.
Building envelope consulting services were provided during the design phase, conducted periodic site visits during construction, and performed field verification testing for the windows and curtain wall. The high-humidity interior presented unique challenges, necessitating specialized detailing around window anchors and exterior soffits.
New Rice Developments Head Office
A 10,800-squre foot single-storey office with a basement, designed to blend with the nearby river and forest. A slim roof profile and cantilevered north end enhance natural light and connection to the landscape. We provided shop drawing reviews and construction oversight for this tranquil, light-filled workspace.
Kennedy Road South New Development
This 9,300 sq. ft. single-storey steel-framed office at 7725 Kennedy Road South was designed for single or multi-tenant use and is currently occupied by a credit union. Situated along Etobicoke Creek, the LEED-standard facility maximizes structural efficiency, daylight access, and connection to the surrounding landscape. Engineering Link provided contract documents and administration services. The site includes two outdoor amenity areas and features a heritage installation incorporating stone from the historic Graham Farmhouse, now part of the Sam Rayson Valley Trail.
New Development, 40-Storey Multi-Unit Residential Condominium
Located in the heart of Toronto’s bustling Entertainment District, 128 Peter is a 39-storey condominium tower designed in dialogue with the surrounding brick and beam warehouse context in a sensitive juxtaposition between old and new. The tower features dramatic cantilevers sheltering Victorian houses that sit on the site which will be respectfully restored.
Region of Waterloo 6-Storey Purpose-Built Rental Tower
The Region of Waterloo’s 6-storey affordable housing tower consists of 48 affordable housing units that will serve the seniors of the community. With a total GFA of approximately 54,000 sf of this new build, the structural system for this tower features reinforced concrete, masonry walls and hollow core slabs.
New Development, 39-Storey Purpose-Built Rental Tower
Located at the northwest corner of Vaughan Road and Northcliffe Boulevard in Toronto’s Oakwood-Vaughan location, this modern interpretation of a Flat Iron building has a total GFA of 430,000 sf.
Engineering Link was retained to provide structural engineering design services for this purpose-built rental development featuring two retail spaces at grade with three levels of underground parking and a building height of 126 m. The development will feature 491 rental units.
Bezier Curve House
Structural engineering services for the 7,400 square-foot Bézier Curve House in Lawrence Park included contract documents and administration. To achieve the signature curved roof, traditional framing techniques were used with tensioned wood joists, forming a natural arc. The exposed structure was finished with red oak veneer for a refined architectural detail.
