Enhancing Spaces, Preserving Integrity
Renovations and additions require a delicate balance of modernization and preservation. Our approach seamlessly integrates new elements while maintaining the structural integrity of existing structures.
Featured Projects
College Park Interior Renovations
Structural design for a 6-storey partial infill of an existing atrium to accommodate four new glazed elevators, expanded mechanical spaces, and HVAC upgrades. Work included revised framing for a new escalator pit, relocation of stairs and escalator, and column cladding. We issued revised, stamped structural drawings and developed a layout strategy to increase rentable space, improve flow, and enhance natural light for a modern, open interior.
The Miller Group Tenant Fit out
This 60,000-square-foot multi-storey office project featured three suspended, movable partitions and a new 3-storey interconnecting staircase. Engineering Link prepared the structural drawings for new steel supports, floor openings, and stair design. Working alongside the interior design team, we delivered a seamless structural integration, with custom framing systems supporting the folding partitions independently of the base building. Our scope included assessment, investigation, design, contract documents, and administration.
New Generators and Chillers
This multi-phase project included structural design for a raised steel frame and new piers to support an emergency generator. Our team also provided design reviews for a proposed derrick crane, coring assessments through existing structural elements, and full contract documentation and administration, including shop drawing reviews. The data centre, fully powered by renewable energy, is cooled using Enwave’s Deep Lake Water Cooling System, which draws 4°C water from Lake Ontario.
Sutherland Campus “A Wing” Revitalization
Engineering Link provided Structural and Building Envelope services for the 76,000 sq. ft. revitalization of Fleming College’s A-Wing at the Sutherland Campus. Completed while the building remained in use, the project modernized the space to enhance circulation and energy performance. Our scope included a new ground floor entrance, a feature stair, exterior retaining walls, clearstory framing, cladding and parapet connection design, and support structures for AV equipment.
The Hermant Building
Structural renovations at the historic Hermant Building—comprising the 16-storey 21 Dundas and 9-storey 19 Dundas with rooftop terrace—included assessments and preliminary design for steel reinforcement and localized concrete repairs. Extensive work was required on deteriorated floor slabs at 19 Dundas due to prolonged moisture exposure. The project also included exterior restoration, base building retrofits, and 90,000-square-feet of commercial tenant upgrades at this landmark site in Yonge-Dundas Square.
40 Bay St., Scotia Bank Arena
As base building structural engineer for over 20 years at this arena, our work has included load reviews for over 100 productions, rigging assessments, and support for the 80,000 lb. scoreboard installed in 2015. Scope included structural design for new roof framing members, loading reviews for electronic signage, and reconfiguration of the northeast entrance and concourse levels. Services also included site verification, shop drawing review, construction review, and drawing updates to meet current building code requirements.
Yorkdale Shopping Centre
Services at this premier shopping destination included storefront framing design and review for retailers such as The Body Shop, Dynamite, Mulberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Lacoste, Stuart Weitzman, and White House | Black Market. Additional work included chandelier support for Tory Burch, corbel repairs at Williams Sonoma, emergency call tower installations, exterior signage review, and garbage compactor support framing.
Our Building Envelope group has also completed roof replacements and condition assessments across the property.
Casino Niagara Sports Bar
At Casino Niagara, a former steakhouse was transformed into LEV2L—Niagara Falls’ largest sports bar—featuring 275 seats, a live stage, large-format screens, and a dedicated sports wagering area. Structural scope included slab infill, removal of a steel-framed TV tower, cantilevered columns, and suspended bulkheads on Level 2, with video banner supports and reinforcements on Level 3 to accommodate the new venue design.
