Roof Consulting

Overhead Excellence in Design

Roof consulting is a crucial component of building envelope integrity. Our team ensures that rooftops are not only functional but also seamlessly integrated into the overall design.

This service provides a detailed assessment of roof conditions, utilizing diagnostic tools to identify any vulnerabilities or defects. We evaluate the current state to inform maintenance, repair, or replacement decisions, ensuring longevity and performance.

Roof Consulting project gallery

Calgary Oddfellows Building

Roof assessment conducted to address water leakage, evaluate remaining service life, and determine repair or replacement needs. Included document review, inspection, and exploratory openings. Provided recommendations and budget estimates for replacement.

Calgary Place Apartments

Calgary Place Apartments, a 1970s mixed-use complex with two 37-storey towers, underwent a roof assessment to address leaks in boiler rooms and upper-floor units. The evaluation included document reviews, visual inspections, wind load analysis, and exploratory openings. Replacement options—single-ply, 2-ply SBS, and inverted systems—were assessed for cost, service life, and feasibility, with roof replacement planned.

Toronto General Hospital Roofs

Comprehensive condition assessment of the roofs across the Toronto General Hospital complex. The assessment aimed to evaluate the current state of the roof assemblies, identify necessary repairs to ensure the roofs remain in good condition, and develop a budget estimate for these repairs to be included in the hospital’s 10-year capital plan. The findings provided a detailed overview of the required maintenance and repair strategies to prolong the lifespan and performance of the roofing systems.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Assessment and replacement of the roofing system at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The project involved a detailed condition assessment using infrared thermography and moisture detection systems to determine the extent of damage. Roof replacement designs, prioritizing low-odor, flame-free materials to minimize impact on hospital operations were developed. The project was executed with a focus on sustainability, using durable materials to reduce replacement cycles and reflective roofing to mitigate the heat island effect.

Meridian Arts Centre

Roof renewal at the Meridian Arts Centre, a facility with four theatres. The project included a new green roof, rainwater harvesting feasibility study, wind uplift analysis, and roof upgrades—liquid-applied coating for high roofs and fully bonded system with added insulation for low roofs. An energy model is underway to assess retrofit opportunities.

Toronto Metropolitan University

Comprehensive roof assessments and replacements across several campus buildings, including the Library, Jorgenson Hall, and School of Image Arts. Services included visual reviews, cut tests, infrared scans, and moisture testing. As Prime Consultant, we managed all phases from design through construction.

Greater Toronto Airports Authority

Roof restoration across terminals, hangars, and utility buildings at Toronto Pearson International Airport. We developed a 10-year asset management plan and led repair and replacement work, prioritizing low-odor, flame-free systems and long-term durability. Services included site evaluations, design briefs, and contract administration with minimal disruption to operations.

1 City Centre Drive

Detailed roof assessment included exploratory test openings to evaluate the roof membrane’s condition and bond, and the preparation of a report recommending repair or replacement options with estimated costs.
